Malinalco is a Magical Town approximately 65 miles from Mexico City, yet it feels light years’ away in terms of ambiance. We will climb the 400+ cement steps to get to the top of the “Hill of the Idols” to see a unique, ancient ceremonial center carved out of the rock making up the mountain – unlike any other in Mexico – and get a birds-eye-view of the village. This was a very important ceremonial center for the prehispanic people where they held specialized initiation rites.
Following our archaeological visit, we will switch channels and to visit the sixteenth century Convent of the Transfiguration and the Church of the Divine Savior to savor the impeccable Colonial murals and art work that remains in the Augustinian Convent.
The town, quite popular given its offering of restaurants, handicrafts, quaint art galleries and a stable climate has made it a trendy weekend destination.
We can arrange transportation if you would like to visit this small, artistic town.
